The celebration of Holy Week processions have their origins in the late Middle Ages, when the Franciscans were responsible for organizing the processions. Since then thecelebration has known moments of brilliance and other lower, currently living heyday.Spain has retained many different traditions, some of a huge spectacle.

The most important days of Holy Week are formed by the so-called Easter Triduum: The introduction to the Triduum (Holy Thursday and on Friday), which commemorates thedeath of Christ on Holy Saturday, which marks Christ in the tomb, and on Easter Sundayof the Resurrection.
